8 DAYS – 7 NIGHTS DAILY YEAR ROUND

 

DAY 1: EN ROUTE – Depart U.S.A. via overnight let flight to Athens, Greece. Dinner and breakfast served on board. (D)

 

DAY 2: ATHENS – Arrival at the Athens airport, where you will be met by Pharos personnel and assisted through customs and baggage claims formalities and escorted to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. (B)

 

DAY 3: ATHENS – After breakfast at the hotel, depart on a morning Athens city tour, which will introduce you to the most important cultural sites of this glorious city, such as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Constitution Square-Syntagma, the Presidential Palace, the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympic Games revived in modern era, Andrian’s Arch and the Temple of Zeus, the Acropolis, where you visit the Parthenon and the museum, Theseum and the Greek Orthodox Cathedral-Metropolis – the Monastiraki flea market, the Academy, the University and the National Library. Overnight in Athens. (B)

 

DAY 4: ATHENS – NAFPLION – Today, after breakfast, you depart for the four day classical tour of the Greek mainland. Drive by the Saronic Gulf, on to Corinth canal and then on to MYCENAE, to see the Gate of the [ions and the Tomb of King Agamemnon. Then on to NAFPLION, the original Greek capital. In the afternoon, visit EPIDAURUS and its famous Theatre. Dinner and overnight in Nafplion. (B,D)

 

DAY 5: NAFPLION – OLYMPIA – Drive through the Central Peloponnese, passing the cities of MEGALOPOLIS and TRIPOLIS. At arrival in Olympia, visit the Stadium, where the first Olympic games took place, the Temple of Zeus and see the greatest sculpture of all times, “HERMES”, by Praxitelis. Dinner and overnight in Olympia. (B,D)

 

DAY 6: OLYMPIA – DELPHI – Driving through the plains of Ilia and Achaiia, on to PATRAS, pass the RION-ANTIRION canal by ferry, driving through picturesque NAFPAKTOS arrive in DELPHI, where you visit the Castalian Springs and the Sanctuary of Athensae Pronea. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. (B,D)

 

DAY 7: DELPHI – ATHENS – In the morning visit the museum and have ample time to stroll through the cobble-stoned streets of the village. Drive back to Athens for overnight. (B)

 

DAY 8: ATHENS – AEGINA – POROS -HYDRA – After breakfast at the hotel, morning transfer to the Paleo Faliro to board your Saronic Islands cruise ship. First stop, the picturesque St. Marina port of Aegina island. Visit the Temple of the Athena Aphaia and the local shops for the best pistachio nuts in the world. Next call is Poros island, the charming green island of the Saronic Gulf. Last call, Hydra island, whose inhabitants played a dynamic role as sea merchants of Greek modern era. Shop for the islands ceramics and “amygdalota” – a white sugar covered almond sweet – a must. Leisurely cruise back to Athens for overnight. (B,L)

 

DAY 9: ATHENS – DEPARTURE – After breakfast at the hotel, Pharos personnel will escort you to the airport for your return Flight to New York. Don’t forget to visit the Athens Duty Free shops, ranked the best in value among the other European cities. (Tour extensions available) (B,D,S)
